Leonardo's Vineyard | An Unmissable Ad-vine-ture

If there’s one thing that endures today besides Leonardo da Vinci’s paintings, it’s his wine. On your trip to Milan, include a visit to Leonardo’s Vineyard within the palace Casa degli Atellani. Leonardo’s Vineyard is a must-see for those interested in the man, his art, and his wide-ranging interests.

Why Visit Leonardo's Vineyard?

  • Historical significance: Leonardo’s Vineyard, like himself, was a product of the Renaissance. Its symmetrical architecture resurrects the Renaissance in the 21st century.
  • Viticulture: The art of cultivating grapes for wine production here is an amalgamation of beauty, creativity, and harmony. Leonardo took a keen interest in the grape varieties grown in his vineyard — which has over 300 grape vines, producing 3000+ bottles of wine each year.
  • Scenic oasis: In the midst of Milan’s hustle and bustle, Leonardo’s Vineyard offers an oasis of calm. Nestled inside the Atellani residence, it stands for rustic living that was a hallmark of villas in the 15th century.
  • Heritage site: The Italian government has expended great effort in preserving Leonardo’s Vineyard as a heritage site. Some of the wine-making methods used 4–5 centuries ago have been replicated even today for the purposes of education and entertainment.

The Vineyard
Casa degli Atellani

Relax in the tranquility offered by the lush and verdant vineyard in the lap of Milan. Take a guided tour, understand viticultural practices, enjoy wine tastings, and participate in cultural events (if available) to understand life as it was in Renaissance Italy.

Built in the 15th century by the wealthy and influential Atellanis, this palace is a timeless piece of Renaissance architecture that showcases luxurious Milanese living. It is also famous for its fresco ‘Cupid and Psyche’ by Bernardino Luini. The Atellanis hosted Da Vinci during his stay in Milan, and Da Vinci repaid them by designing the vineyard that is now a major tourist attraction.
